Apr 20, 2010 (newstodate): Serbia's government has now decided on the plan to set up a new carrier, JAT to succeed the troubled JAT Airways.
According to the plan, the new carrier will be fully privatized through a tender process shortly after its formal launch.
The new carrier will take over the former JAT Airway's fleet, most of the staff, slots, traffic rights, assets etc - but not the debts of JAT Airways that will remain state property.
With a fresh state-injected capital base, the new carrier will be formally established before July 1, 2010.
The Serbian government earlier failed in repeated efforts to sell JAT Airways to foreign investors - but eventually realized that the carrier had reached the end of its 83 years of history in 2010.
