Apr 09, 2010 (newstodate): Icelandair, Boeing's first customer in Europe for the Boeing 787 Dreamliner, will most probably not operate the four aircraft itself, but lease them to other operators as they are delivered.
-The first Dreamliner has already been leased to Air Niugini, and we are working hard on landing similar leasing arrangement with other operators for the other three aircraft, says Kari Karason, Icelease general manager.
-The first Boeing 787 will be delivered in November 2012, one more will follow in 2013, and the remaining two aircraft in 2014.
-Boeing has had many problems with the Boeing 787 program, but is remains a very competent and reliable provider, and we fully trust that it will eventually overcome all remaining issues, including the inevitable adjustments of a range of parameters once the aircraft start commercial operations, says Mr Karason.
In 2005 Icelandair placed a firm order with Boeing for two Dreamliner aircraft, with options for five more aircraft, later changing two options into firm orders in April, 2006.
The first two Boeing 787 aircraft were due to arrive in 2010, with the next to follow by 2012, but Boeing later postponed these deliveries by some 28 months.
