Apr 06, 2010 (newstodate): The world's first converted Bombardier Dash-8 Q400 freighter proved a disaster for its operator, Swedish carrier Nord-Flyg.
The carrier has filed for bankruptcy, and the lack of success with the Q400 contributed heavily to its problems.
The original contract for operations with the Q400 was abrogated before it took off, due to the unfolding world financial crisis leaving Nord-Flyg with the Q400 freighter stuck on ground after a few charter operations.
Nord-Flyg received its first converted Q400-PF Package Freighter on January 16, 2009, and even had plans to take more ex-SAS Dash 8 Q400 aircraft for conversion.
-There is certainly nothing wrong with the aircraft that will indeed have a bright future in opening a new segment in air cargo business. But the timing was really bad, Ulf Darenius, Nord-Flyg CEO earlier told newstodate.
