Apr 22, 2010 (newstodate): Member of the SAS Group, the Finnish carrier Blue1 is far into the process of deciding on a replacement of its five MD-90 aircraft.
-The MD-90 is a wonderful aircraft, and our pilots just love it. But with 166 seats, it is too big for our route network, says Tom Christides, Blue1 VP Corporate Communication & Government Affairs.
-We rather need an aircraft with 120-130 seats, and we have been negotiating with aircraft manufacturers on this issue.
-No contract has been signed yet, but I expect this to take place soon. As we need to start replacing the MD-90 from the coming winter schedule already, time is running fast. Hopefully we can announce an aircraft order early this summer already, says Mr Christides.
Besides the MC-90, Blue1 also operates a fleet of seven Avro RJ85 aircraft.
To assist Blue1 with the aircraft acquisition negotiations, the carrier has contracted the Latvian aviation consulting company Qnord G that has its HQ in Riga, Latvia, and an office in Helsinki, Finland.
