Apr 07, 2010 (newstodate): Asian cargo is again lifting volumes at Finnair Cargo.
In March the airline carried a total of 9,256 tonnes of cargo, an increase by 22.4 percent, y-o-y, primarily driven by a 30.5 percent growth in Asian volumes, to 6,301 tonnes.
Second in volumes came the European sector that accounted for 1,753 tonnes albeit growing modestly only by 3.1 percent.
Growth-wise the North Atlantic traffic dominated with 67.2 percent, to 777 tonnes.
For this year's Q1, Finnair Cargo totaled 24,958 tonnes - an increase by 23.4 percent, y-o-y, again dominated by the growth, 34.4 percent, in Asian volumes, to 17,088 tonnes.
The North Atlantic volumes also increased by 31 percent to 1,959 tonnes.
As the carrier has adjusted its capacity, the over-all cargo load factor was up 23.1 percentage-point to 76.1 percent in March 2010, and by 26.7 percentage-points to 70.9 percent during Q1.
As cargo traffic is re-bouncing, Finnair Cargo is still tight-lipped about its plans, earlier aired, for the introduction of new pure freighter services to Asia and, maybe, to North America, from this summer.
