Apr 19, 2010 (newstodate): Estonian carrier Estonian Air has its focus on routes with flying times up to 2.5 hours on point-to-point traffic to and from Tallinn.
But this does not exclude efforts to cultivate business in other niches as well.
-For Estonian Air, charter traffic is only a niche and is not taken into account as we dimension our aircraft fleet, says Andrus Aljas, Estonian Air president & CEO.
-It is, however, very useful in leveling out the fluctuations in the cyclical pattern in demand for air transportation, and charter operations also contribute some 10 percent to our total revenues. So we are indeed also seeking contracts with charter operations when we have capacity to offer.
-For this summer season we have successfully landed contracts with the country's two leading charter tour operators, so this will provide a welcome boost in utilization of our aircraft capacity, says Mr Aljas.
Estonian Air operates a fleet comprising four Boeing 737 aircraft, but is also introducing a fifth Boeing 737 aircraft on a lease contract with another operator, running till the end of the year .
Hopes are the before then the carrier will finally have taken delivery of the three Bombardier CRJ900 NextGen aircraft in a deal put on hold by the uncertainty over the airline's future ownership.
