Apr 06, 2010 (newstodate): Problems are building up for Estonia's role in the transfer of ex-China shipments destined for Russia.
-I can confirm that the traffic is currently suspended and we cannot do any business right now, says a source within Universal Logistic System Estonia that is handling the large volumes of Russian imports through Tallinn Airport.
-We are working hard with the Russian customs to solve the problems, but we are currently not able to transport the Chinese shipments to Russia.
The source, however, denies that ULS is already preparing to return the Chinese shipments piling up at the company's large cargo terminal at the airport, but according to industry sources this is actually already being done by ULS' own Airbus A300 freighters operating between China and Estonia via Turkey.
In 2009 Tallinn Airport handled a total of 20,062 tonnes of cargo, but industry sources say some 80 percent of this volume is actually ex-China shipments destined for Russia - a traffic controlled by one Russian company.
The current problems are reportedly stemming from detection by Russian customs of forged import documents and carriage of Chinese fake copy-products violating commercial laws.
