Apr 12, 2010 (newstodate): Plans may be finally moving ahead for expansion of the cargo business at Hungary's Budapest Ferihegy Airport.
The airport handled some 60,000 tonnes of cargo in 2009 and is served by both freighter and belly-load carriers, but expansion of facilities is needed to cope with increasing demand in the airfreight market.
After a long period of negotiations, agreement has now been reached over the development of land within the airport area to allow for construction of new facilities including a large new air cargo terminal.
Among the first new projects is the construction of a new terminal dedicated to Hungarian Post, slated for completion by the end of this year already.
Driving the process at the airport is Christa Soltau, who took up the position as Vice President of Cargo and Logistics from January 1, 2010.
