Apr 21, 2010 (newstodate): Once the ash clouds over Europe lift again, tremendous efforts by the airlines will be required to cope with the mismatch between huge backlogs of passengers and cargo and dislocated aircraft.
While stressful for the airlines, the situation may prove a golden business opportunity for capacity providers in the market.
One carrier to grasp the opportunity is the Lithuanian capacity provider, flyLAL Charters, operating a fleet of four Boeing 737-300 and one Boeing 757-200 aircraft.
The carrier's business including contracts with tour operators in the charter industry, but also sale of capacity to other airlines.
-We have mobilized all our forces to bring back passengers after four days of grounding. Working in close co-operation with tour operators we have now returned all operations to normal and resumed all charter flights, says Vytautas Kaikaris, flyLAL Charters CEO.
-Now we are ready to help other European airlines to face the enormous task of working through backlogs and to get their passengers where they want to go, says Mr Kaikaris.
