Apr 07, 2010 (newstodate): The new US airline planning to offer Transatlantic flights to Europe, Baltia Air Lines has signed a contract for cargo handling at St Petersburg's Pulkovo Airport.
Baltia Air Lines has contracted Cargo Terminal Pulkovo to provide handling of import and export cargo and mail, ramp services, and shipping document processing.
With preparations starting nearly 20 years ago, Baltia Airlines acquired its first aircraft in 2009 - reportedly a nearly 40 years old Boeing 747-200 aircraft earlier serving with TAP and PIA but stored on ground since 2005.
Baltia Air Lines' ambitions include the launch of flights between New York and St Petersburg, Russia, later adding flights to the capital cities of Eastern Europe, including Moscow, Riga, Kiev, and Minsk.
No launch date has, however, yet been announced.
