Mar 19, 2010 (newstodate): The Romanian state has asked for EU approval of plans to provide aid to development of a regional airport, Stefan cel Mare Airport, near Salcea in north-eastern Romania.
The regional government owning the airport has plans for the extension of the runway from 1,800 to 2,400 m, but the owner lacks to means to finance the project that has been on the table for long.
A decision by EU is awaited within a month, but in the meantime EU has asked Romania to draw up a plan outlining the future needs for state financing of airport projects in the country.
