Mar 26, 2010 (newstodate): The issue of resumption of direct flights between Russia and Georgia, suspended since the August war, 2008, remains unsolved.
The two countries negotiated a solution to allow for a limited number of charter flights during Christmas time, mediated through Switzerland, but regular flights have still not been reopened.
The Georgian stand seems to be that the issue is part of the larger question of the state of the break-away provinces of South Ossetia and Abkhazia, and Georgia has vehemently protested against Russian plans to open "international" flights between Russia and Abkhazia's Skhumi Airport.
