MAr 24, 2010 (newstodate): Finnair Cargo's plans for introducing freighter services from summer 2010 are maturing.
The company has filed for airport slots and traffic rights for routes between Helsinki and destinations in Asia and the USA, and as these applications are handled and answered by the authorities involved, Finnair Cargo plans to be able to announce details on its future freighter route network and schedules by mid-April, 2010.
After a road-show to present the new options to the markets involved, the company then expects to be able to launch flights by mid-May, 2010.
Flights on routes to destinations in China and other Asian countries, including possibly also India, take top priority, but the current plans also include trans-Atlantic flights to selected destinations in the USA.
Finnair Cargo will have two MD-11F aircraft at its disposal as the Finnair-owned aircraft have been returned after the close-down of Aeroflot-Cargo that had signed up for the aircraft.
In order to enhance the profitability of the planned freighter operations, Finnair Cargo may also consider cooperating with other airline partners to secure balanced operations on the routes.
