Mar 31, 2010 (newstodate): Despite much political effort, Kazakhstan did not succeed in having its airlines lifted off EU's list of carriers banned from operating into community airports.
The only exeption on the latest revised blacklist is Air Astana that is permitted to operate its western-built aircraft into community airports.
The latest version of the blacklist comprises 287 airlines from 17 countries, with Africa weighing heavily among nations.
Among the banned carriers is Iran Air, and an investigation team will soon leave for Iran to probe deeper into the airline's aircraft maintenance and safety environment and regulations.
