Mar 01, 2010 (newstodate): After a prolonged period of delay, the Turkish airport construction and management company TAV is today taking over the responsibility for running and developing Macedonia's airports at Skopje and Ohrid.
In August 2008, TAV won the tender for the 20-year contract for concession and operation of Skopje Alexander the Great Airport, Ohrid St. Paul the Apostle Airport, and the construction of the New Cargo Airport in Shtip.
But due to the effects from the world financial crisis, the deadline was been pushed to August, 2009, from the start of the year as earlier agreed.
The cut-over date was again postponed - and in October 2009 Macedonia eventually threatened to abrogate the contract if TAV did not move. Which then happened.
