Mar 19, 2010 (newstodate): After a disastrous year during most of 2009, Lufthansa Cargo saw a positive growth in traffic during the fourth quarter, and the trend has continued so far into 2010.
-January saw volumes up by 28.3 percent, and the development in February was even better, so we are cautiously optimistic about prospects for 2010, says Carsten Spohr, Lufthansa Cargo chairman of the executive board.
Based on these trends, Lufthansa Cargo is currently preparing two of four MD-11F freighters parked at Victorville, California, for a return to service if warranted by the market, but no final decision has yet been made as to a possible date of entry into service.
-The market is still marked by over-capacity in aircraft and we feel an obligation together with other airlines not to act irresponsibly by returning parked aircraft to operations unless economically viable, says Mr Spohr.
