Mar29, 2010 (newstodate): Lufthansa Cargo is quite optimistic about the result from this year's first quarter, as seen from tonnages.
-2009 was a terrible year for anyone in the business. Volumes shrank, competiton forced rates down to bottom levels, and revenues were hit hard. But even so Lufthansa Cargo Denmark managed to increase its share of the market as seen from CASS statistics, says Michael Schoop, Lufthansa Cargo Country Manager.
-The two last months of 2009 did, however, show signs of recovery, and this positive has continued through the first months of 2010, so my estimate is that we will emerge from this year's first quarter with an increase by around 30 percent, y-o-y.
-This may still not bring us even with the levels of Q1 in 2008, but at least we are on the road to recovery, says Mr Schoop.
From the start of this summer' schedule, Lufthansa will replace the current CRJ services at Billund Airport with three daily Boeing 737-500 flights, greatly boosting the uplift capacity for cargo customers in the Western part of Denmark where most of the country's industries is located.
