Mar 04, 2010 (newstodate): Latest figures from Lithuania's Vilnius Airport testify to a firm recovery in the country's aviation business after the disastrous 2009.
In February this year the airport handled a total of 84,242 passengers, up 11 percent, y-o-y.
The number of flights also increased by 27 percent, and the volumes of of cargo carried via the airport went up by 29 percent, y-o-y.
In January-February 2010 the airport thus handled 173,196 passengers - up 2.5 percent on last year, while the number of flights increased by 15 percent.
-The number of flights in Vilnius is increasing faster than the number of served passengers. It means that there are enough of the flights; however, the market is still not prepared to accept supply of all airlines at the airport, says Tomas Vaisvila, Vilnius Airport general manager.
-To achieve a rise of the passenger flow, a contribution of participants of the tourism market is essential. Vilnius is easily accessible; however, aircraft are not full.
As plans are known today, Vilnius Airport is to have flights to 25 destinations by the end of March, and expects to handle about two mio passengers in 2010.
