Mar 24, 2010 (newstodate): Long awaited, the Latvian carrier airBaltic has now confirmed its plans for opening a new Baltic base at Tallinn Airport, Estonia, from June this year.
-The Estonian market is significantly under-served and needs more flights. airBaltic made an initial strategic step by adding new seven direct routes from Estonia, and we will now increase our presence at Tallinn airport by opening a base of airBaltic in 2010, says Bertolt Flick, airBaltic President and CEO.
airBaltic says it will disclose its plans for the base in Estonia in connection with the launch, on March 31, 2010, of flights on the new route between Tallinn, Estonia, and Tampere, Finland.
After opening the base at Tallinn, airBaltic will then have a hub in all three Baltic countries.
airBaltic now offers seven direct flights from Tallinn, to Turku, Lappeenranta, Tampere, Oulu, Riga, Vilnius, and Stockholm, as well as a direct flight between Tartu, Estonia, and its main hub at Riga Airport, Latvia.
airBaltic opened its hub at Vilnius Airport, Lithuania, in June, 2004.
