Mar 30, 2010 (newstodate): Cathay Pacific Cargo is again monitoring the market to assess the potentials behind setting up a freighter service from Sweden's Luleaa Kallax Airport.
-We are talking to Norway's exporters of fresh seafood to the Asian markets, but no decision has been made and will hardly be before later this year, says Magnus Glans, Cathay Pafific Cargo manager Sweden.
Behind the efforts is the organization Kallax Cargo Airport, owned by five transport and logistics partners in Sweden, Norway, and Finland: Meyership AS, Norway, Holm Shipping AS, Norway, Wiiks Transport AS, Norway, Kalles Bud och Transport AB, Sweden, and Kalottspedition OY, Finland, alongside the initial Swedish owners NCC, Norrporten och Luleaa County.
Kallax Cargo Airport launched flights with Korean Air Cargo in January 2009, but the service never managed to land the necessary commitments from the Norwegian exporters and were suspended due to lack of sufficient bookings later in the year.
Already in 2008 was Cathay Pacific Cargo approached to launch freighter service in 2009 from Luleaa to Hong Kong, but eventually pulled out of the project.
Another Swedish group, Air Navigare Cargo is currently also preparing for start of a similar freighter service from Luleaa Kallax Airport, but so far no definite plan, nor a start-up date have been announced.
Mr Glans, however, claims to have no knowledge of the Air Navigare Cargo project.
