Mar 26, 2010 (newstodate): While Finnair Cargo's plans for Asian freighter services are welcomed by the market, the response to a possible US freighter service is more reluctant.
-A decision by Finnair Cargo to launch freighter flights to Asian destinations is indeed wise and timely, but the situation for a US freighter service is much more difficult, says Ari Ruuskanen, Panalpina Finland sales & project manager.
-While the US airfreight market is indeed picking up and volumes are increasing, there is still over-capacity on the trans-Atlantic flights between Europe and the North America, and the US market is still very difficult because of the weak US dollar. Also the over-all economic situation in the country remains unsettled.
-So I would indeed recommend to Finnair Cargo that they consider this business case very cautiously, says Mr Ruuskanen.
