Mar 25, 2010 (newstodate): While Estonian Air has reportedly reacted negatively to the decision by Latvian carrier airBaltic to set up its new base at Tallinn Airport, the Estonian minister of economy holds a more constructive view.
-Expansion by airBaltic to Estonia shows that there is room in the local aviation market, and Estonian Air must be able to cope with the competition without the help of the state too, Juhan Parts, minister of economy said in an interview as reported by Estonia's National Broadcasting's news portal.
The minister also refused any thoughts of state subsidies to Estonian Air, seeing airBaltic's entrance into the market as proof that there is actually room for competition.
-From the perspective of Estonian Air, they have to accept that competition and offer possibilities that are better than those of airBaltic, he said on the website.
