Mar 10, 2010 (newstodate): Estonia welcomes any prospective new airline at Tallinn Airport - but still has to cover its costs through its fees.
The airport has therefore reportedly rejected a proposal by Ryanair that pledges to bring in 1.5 mio new passengers on new routes between Tallinn and Milan, Gerona, Brussels, Dusseldorf, Kaunas, Oslo, Stockholm, London and Madrid if airport fees were lowered close to zero.
If the airport were to accede to Ryanair's proposal it would, however, have to offer other operators equal terms as the earlier lesson from Latvia's Riga airport shows. And this would leave the airport without revenue to cover costs from handling and other services provided.
