Mar 26, 2010 (newstodate): Germany's Magdeburg-Cochstedt Airport, recently acquired by the Danish investment group, Airport Development A/S, plans to launch business in 2010 already with new concepts.
Formerly a DDR air force base equipped with a 3,100 m runway, the airport will be able to handle aircraft up to the size of Boeing 747, and once commitments from future operators are landed, the airport will activate its ILS, already installed and ready to be put into operation.
-Located within comfortable reach of both Berlin and Leipzig-Halle, Magdeburg-Cochstedt Airport may serve as a future alternative, or supplement to these airports, but we are keen to seek a good understanding with them in order not to compete, but rather to complement each other, says Michael Agerled, Magdeburg-Cochstedt Airport CEO and partner in the Danish owner.
-We see a future for Magdeburg-Cochstedt Airport for low-cost airlines, but especially for cargo operators including postal carriers and integrators. We will also be able to dedicate space for aircraft maintenance companies, and we will offer attractive fuel prices to attract operators to fuel aircraft at Magdeburg-Cochstedt Airport.
-In short, we are working on a wide range of concepts each focussing on specific segments of the aviation business, and with ample space for aircraft, terminals, hangars and service facilities at competitive prices we are keen to build up a sound business here in cooperation with the regional government that is also offering attractive conditions for companies that decide to establish business at Magdeburg-Cochstedt Airport, says Mr Agerled.
Magdeburg-Cochstedt Airport will make its first presentation at the forthcoming ILA in Berlin, June 8-13, 2010.
