Airport will open a new passenger terminal boosting the airport´s handling capacity to 3.2 million passengers a year, against the current two million.
The project has been in the pipeline for some time, but was stalled due to the lack of financial means during the recent crisis in the world economy.
Now the Asian Development Bank has stepped in, offering a 40 mio USD loan to secure the financing of the project as ADB's first private-sector infrastructure investment in Armenia and the Caucasus region.
Since 2001 Zvartnots International Airport is operated under a 30-year concession by Armenia International Airports, owned by Eduardo Eurnekian, Argentina.
