Mar 04, 2010 (newstodate): Provided the current upsurge in Russia's domestic aviation market continues, Aeroflot will heading towards a significant increase in market share.
The surge will be driven by the integration with Aeroflot of the nucleus of the now-abandoned idea of RosAvia, in the wake of the shake-up in Russia aviation industry when AiRUnion went bust in 2008.
Aeroflot is thus to integrate with Rossiya, Kavminvodyavia, Orenburg Airlines, Vladivostok Avia, Saratov Airlines and Sakhalin Airlines, and this will take the market share from currently 15 percent to over 30 percent, measured in capacity.
Aeroflot is today only 3rd in domestic aviation, after S7 Sibir Airlines and UTAir, while remaining the country's undisputed leader in international traffic with one-fourth of the market.
