Feb 05, 2010 (newstodate): The proposed merger of Aeroflot with the airlines currently under the umbrella of Rostehnologii may require Aeroflot to divest itself of some of its routes.
As the project of forming a new carrier, Rosavia to compete with Aeroflot is abandoned, Aeroflot will instead take over the assets of the airlines Atlant Soyuz, Rossiya, Kavminvodyavia, Orenburg Airlines, Saratov Airlines, Sakhalin Airways, Vladivostok Airlines, Dalavia, KrasAir, Domodedovo Airlines and Samara from Rostehnologii.
But this move would boost Aeroflot's share of market beyond 35-40 percent, and the airline would thus come into conflict with the country's anti-monopoly regulator.
Left to compete with a strong state-owned Aeroflot would be Russian carriers like S7 Airlines, UTair and Transaero that remain outside state ownership and might obtain traffic rights on some of Aeroflot's existing routes.
