Feb 19, 2010 (newstodate): The pan-Scandinavian carrier SAS is seemingly preparing itself for a take-over by another airline.
First, the SAS Group has asked its majority shareholders, the states of Denmark, Norway and Sweden, to participate in a new emission in April 2010 to collect five bio Swedish Kroner.
The state cash injection, the second in only two years, will allow the Group to clean up the business prior to a take-over by another party.
As a further step indicating the preparations, the Scandinavian states, first Sweden and Norway, are now announcing intentions to divest of their stakes in the airline, which will further clear the road ahead for a future sale.
Lufthansa has repeatedly been named as the most probable buyer of SAS, but no official statements have been made.
