Feb 12, 2010 (newstodate): Speculations are once again rising over a forth-coming merger with Lufthansa of the pan-Scandinavian carrier SAS that is struggling up-hill for survival.
After another year 2009 in the highly red, the carrier's CEO has confirmed to media that the airline would rather seek shelter as a company in the Lufthansa Group than be forced to go it alone.
As a first step, the carrier has again asked its major shareholders, the Danish, Swedish and Norwegian states, for participation in a new emission of share to the value of five billion Swedish Kroner.
Analysts consider this a necessary and minimal precondition to get the ailing airline in a shape acceptable to a new potential owner.
