Feb 05, 2010 (newstodate): Russia's re-entry as provider of commercial aircraft to the world with the Superjet 100 is again flawed by sustained delay.
First planned to be delivered from 2008, the manufacturer is now confirming that the first delivery will not occur before the 2nd half of this year against the aborted plans for delivery before Christmas 2009 to Armavia, the launch customer.
As before, the problems are with the PowerJet SaM146 engine, developed by the Russian Saturn and the French SNECMA.
The Sukhoi Superjet 100 is designed to compete against the Embraer E-Jets and the Bombardier CRJ both in operational costs and, not least, procurement prices.
So far the aircraft has landed 225 orders, with Aeroflot topping the customer list with 30 aircraft ordered.
