Feb 03, 2010 (newstodate): Plans for a new giant Russian carrier alongside and competing with Aeroflot seems to be now a thing of the past - long before maturing.
The planned state-owned carrier Rosavia was intended to collect the remains of the former AiRUnion and other regional airlines into a large conglomerate to compete against Aeroflot.
Instead the state will increase again its stake in the national airline Aeroflot, and carriers including Rossiya, Kavminvodyavia, Orenburg Airlines, Vladivostokavia, Saratov Airlines and Sakhalin Airlines will be merged with Aeroflot that will thus increase its share of the country's aviation business.
Competition will be curbed - like in the good old days..
