Feb 04, 2010 (newstodate): A new aviation venture is shaping up in Iceland, based on a group of Icelandic investors.
-We are currently in the process of establishing the company and obtaining the certifications and permits required to launch operation, says Valdimar Saemundsson, Iceland Aerotech, serving as consultant to the group.
-Yet to have a formal name, the carrier in the making will be an ACMI provider targeting the air cargo business from sometime during June-July-August 2010 with one or probably two Boeing 757 converted freighters.
-Plans are to set up an operational base in Europe, with the exact location to be determined by the lead contract, and the new freighter airline will probably provide capacity for flights between Europe and Africa and Asia.
-We are currently negotiating with a few potential customers, and the outcome of these talks will settle the details as to fleet, operational base and other issues. But the new carrier will thus not be based in Iceland, but will operate on an Icelandic AOC, says Mr Saemundsson.
