Feb 24, 2010 (newstodate): Starting from June, 2010, Lithuania's Kanuas Airport will start resurfacing of the last remaining part of its runway while keeping operations running without interference with the traffic.
The airport has already re-surfaced 900 m at both ends of the runway, and the resurfacing of the middle part's 1,450 m now remains.
The airport will remain operating as all work will be done in small segments every night from 12 PM to 6 AM sharp, because the first plane is due to take off at 6 AM from beginning of May this year.
-A tender split into two phases has now been opened, with qualification of the participants to be evaluated first, after which five selected participants will be entitled to make financial their proposal. The resurfacing works should take two-three months, starting from beginning of June, says Arijandas Sliupas, Kaunas Airport managing director.
