Feb 26, 2010 (newstodate): Latvia's new ground handling company North Hub Services, at Riga Airport, is keen to grow its business at a fast pace.
-We have the strategy, and we have the financial strength to grow, says Janis Balkens, North Hub Services CEO.
-Plans are to be offering handling services at six airport in the Baltic and Nordic region, and we will go for setting up subsidiaries, rather than buying into existing companies. Not least to avoid the troublesome process with strong unions in existing companies.
-We have started out from the start of this year at Riga Airport with some 100 staff, we are already in the process of adding 50 more, and by the end of the year when we have added cargo handling and has become a full-service handling provider, we will be around 300 staff at Riga Airport alone. But the total number will grow to 400-450 as we intend to expand abroad already before the end of this year.
-Our business model is lean, we have only four people in administration here, and when we expand through new subsidiaries, administration will be outsourced to local providers, says Mr Balkens.
North Hub Services plans to set up subsidiaries in Tallinn, Estonia, Vilnius, Lithuania, Helsinki, Finland, Copenhagen, Denmark, and Stockholm, Sweden.
