Feb 26, 2010 (newstodate): Lithuania's Kanuas Airport is refuting claims by media that is should be worried over Ryanair's wishes for adding traffic at Vilnius Airport as well.
Ryanair will open its 40th base, its first in Central Europe, at Kaunas Airport from May, 2010, basing two aircraft there from the outset, and has announced plans to grow its volume of destinations from Kaunas to 18 for a start.
At the same time, Ryanair has also stressed its wish to be allowed to operate low-cost flights from other Lithuanian airports, primarily Vilnius.
-Kaunas Airport's team has been purposefully working to increase the current passenger traffic and is excited to welcome Ryanair base at the airport. The recently signed agreement between Ryanair and Kaunas Airport demonstrates mutual understanding and interest in developing passenger services between Lithuania and other countries in Europe, says Arijandas Sliupas, Kanunas Airport general manager.
-We strongly believes that Ryanair and Kaunas Airport are firmly on the way towards building a mutually profitable long-term cooperation.
-An exciting opportunity for Lithuania opens to boost its incoming tourism as well as business traffic with Ryanair's expansion at Kaunas Airport and airBaltic's offering of a variety of new connections from Vilnius Airport.
-The new destinations grant easy access to the country for passengers, in addition to other connections operated by Lufthansa, SAS, Brussels Airlines, Czech Airlines, Austrian Airlines, Estonian Air, Finnair, Star1 Airlines, UTair, Norwegian, LOT, and Skyways, says Mr Sliupas.
