Feb 02, 2010 (newstodate): Serbia's Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport is regaining its former position as an important airport in the Balkan region.
The airport that has a 3,40 m runway has seen the number of airlines operating increasing over the last few years, and a total of 26 scheduled airlines are now on-line at Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport.
Latest newcomer is Austria's Niki on a route between Vienna and Belgrade, but several more are known to have applied for operating permits and slot times.
The increased volume of offerings by foreign airlines increases the pressure on the national carrier JAT that is now seeing almost all routes exposed to competition.
In 2009, the airport handled a total of 2,384,077 passengers, a decline by 10 percent, y-o-y.
