Feb 25, 2010 (newstodate): Baltic Cargo Center at Latvia's Riga Airport is preparing for handling the airport's first Boeing 747 full-freighter aircraft during the coming weekend.
The milestone will be the call by a Singapore Airlines Cargo Boeing 747-400ERF freighter on a chartered mission to bring a special cargo load to an undisclosed foreign embassy in Latvia.
-We are fully prepared for the job, but our staff is of course eager to handle the unusual challenge, says Oleg Korshe, Baltic Cargo Center general manager.
-Even before this operation we can safely claim a very positive start to the year, with total volumes up by 30 percent, y-o-y, in January-February.
-This marked growth is primarily secured by transfer cargo that now constitutes 62 percent of total volumes where air mail is also growing at a fast pace, says Mr Korshe.
Baltic Cargo Center is owned jointly by GlobeGround Berlin, 45, SAS Cargo, 45, and AirBaltic 10 percent.
