Feb 05, 2010 (newstodate): Estonia's Tallinn Airport came off to a promising start of the year with a 15.3 percent increase in cargo volumes, compared to 2009.
The airport handled a total of 2,096 tonnes of cargo and mail, and the growth was almost entirely driven by a 16.3 percent, y-o-y, rise in cargo imports - that is ex-China exports to Russia via Tallinn from where it is taken by trucks to the final destinations.
January 2010 was also in sharp contrast to December 2009 when the airport saw volumes down by 20.8 percent, y-o-y, again driven by a 20.8 percent decline in "import" cargo.
Summing up Tallinn Airport's cargo performance in 2009, total volumes landed at 21,001 tonnes, down 49.8 percent on the preceding year.
