Feb 23, 2010 (newstodate): Albania's Tirana International Airport emerged from 2009 with a growth in passenger figures - and a decline in cargo volumes.
The airport handled a total of 1.4 mio passengers in 2009, an increase by 10.1 percent, y-o-y, while cargo dropped 13 percent, to a total of 1,711 tonnes.
Air traffic movements were up by 4.5 percent, but the increased traffic is mainly provided with smaller regional aircraft with little cargo capacity.
12 airlines now operate at Tirana International Airport, connecting the Albanian capital city with direct flights to 33 destinations.
