Feb 26, 2010 (newstodate): The Latvian carrier has announced the opening of seven new routes for Finland, and two new routes from Tallinn, as part of the airline's strategy of expansion in Finland and Estonia.
The new routes for Finland comprise flights from Riga, Latvia, to Rovaniemi and Kuusamo, flights between Rovaniemi and Tampere, flights between Kuusamo and Lappeenranta, between Kuopio and Lappeenranta, as well as flights from Tallinn, Estonia, to Tampere and Oulu.
airBaltic will also increase to daily flights on the route from Riga to Lappeenranta, Filnand, and offer daily connections between Riga and Helsinki during the summer schedule.
-From 2010 we are seeing recovery in the Baltic aviation scene, and we also note that Estonia remains under-served with flight connections. We are not interested in a head-on competition with Estonian Air, but when we see opportunities in the market, we move, says Bertolt Flick, airBaltic President & CEO.
-Both Estonia and Finland are within our core markets, and with Finnair's strong emphasis on its Far Eastern traffic we see great and untapped opportunities in Finland as well, says Mr Flick
