Dec 22, 2010 (newstodate): The Swedish carrier Viking Airlines that folded its wings in October after running into financial mire, has been granted bankruptcy by a Swedish court.
The is now reportedly in talks with investors and creditors after filing for protection in late November, and it plans to re-launch business after a reconstruction by March 2011.
Viking airlines was hit severely by the demise of the UK tour operator KISS Flights that was to be a major customer of the carrier, and efforts to find new customers and to raise new capital for the airline ended without results.
Suspending operations from October 15, 2010, Viking Airlines had to return its four leased Boeing 737-800 aircraft to the lessor.
The carrier's sister airline, Viking Hellas remains unaffected by the filing, and continues its operations between Athens, Erbil and Manchester, as well as flights to Baghdad and Sulaymaniyah.
