Dec 13, 2010 (newstodate): The Swedish carrier Amapola Flyg, based at Stockholm Arlanda Airport, is to take delivery of two more Fokker 50 cargo aircraft early in 2011.
This brings the fleet to a total of 12, making Amapola Flyg one of, if not the world's leading operators of Fokker 50 freighters.
-Our core business remains freight services on behalf of the Swedish Post Office and other post and parcel services providers, but to optimize the rate of utilization of the fleet a secondary strategy is to seek business opportunities in the general cargo market, says Lars Jordahn, Amapola Flyg CEO since May 2010.
-We are thus deep into the ACMI market and also active in the ad-hoc cargo markets, utilizing both own spare capacity and capacity on freighters from other carriers that we charter according to concrete assignments.
-We are thus currently operating some 15 aircraft including, besides our own Fokker 50 freighter, also ATP and ATP freighter aircraft from other airlines.
-We are seeing a positive growth in the airfreight market, reflecting the general recovery of the economy, and we to look over our business plan in 2011 to address the new market opportunities.
-On the basis of the new business plan we will also consider the issue of our future aircraft fleet. After the two Fokker 50 freighters now coming in we will probably not extend this fleet further, but we will probably remain a turboprop freighter carrier, says Mr Jordahn.
Wholly owned by the Swedish investment company Salenia, Amapola Flyg was established in 2004 to take over postal services previously operated by Falcon Air as this airline pulled out of the cargo business.
