Dec 09, 2010 (newstodate): Russia's domestic market for air transportation is booming, but problems of discrepancies in the infrastructure are mounting.
Over half of the passenger volume in Russia's domestic air transportation is generated by only 25 trunk routes. And all these city-pairs have a Moscow airport at one end.
The result, says an industry source, is that most of the country's aviation infrastructure is deteriorating, with investments mainly benefiting the airports that connect by direct flights to Moscow, and carriers operating on these trunk routes.
In the meantime, the vast country with a demanding geography is relying on local, regional and other domestic aviation infrastructure in order to maintain and develop ties with the other parts of the country, not to say with the international world.
