Dec 10, 2010 (newstodate): Despite a series of recent accidents, Russia is not considering a flight ban on the TU-154 aircraft.
A total of 70 TU-154 aircraft are still operating for Russian carriers.
The aircraft first flew on 4 October 4, 1968, and it remains one of the fastest commercial aircraft yet operating, with a max speed of 975 km/h and a range of 5,280 km.
A total of 1,015 TU-154 were built, and 214 aircraft are still operating with many airlines around the world.
But the aircraft has experienced 67 serious flight incidents, including 37 hull-losses involving fatalities, and is increasingly being withdrawn from service.
