Dec 09, 2010 (newstodate): Among the countries to participate in the EU-supported project for exploring new venues for air cargo in the Baltic, Nordic regions, Baltic.Aircargo.Net, is Lithuania.
The Lithuanian participants is Palanga Airport, neighboring the important Baltic Sea harbor at Klaipeda.
Surprisingly, the Lithuanian airports at Vilnius and Kaunas have not been picked despite the fact that they will be handling more than 4,000 and 2,500 tonnes, respectively, in 2010.
In contrast, Palanga Airport has handled only 52 tonnes of cargo during the first 11 months of this year, almost exclusively shipments on road feeder services.
On the other hand, Palanga Airport's growth figures are impressive: 886 percent, y-o-y, so far into 2010.
