Dec 23, 2010 (newstodate): The Lithuanian logistics company Hoptrans' contract with Polet Airlines for a weekly IL-96-400T freighter flight from from Shanghai to Kaunas, Lithuania, is expiring this week.
The first flight was operated on September 21, 2010, and the service has proved a firm success providing a comprehensive logistics chain from Shanghai to destinations in the Baltic region, Poland, the Czech Republic, Hungary and Germany, using scheduled trucking from Kaunas.
-We are now negotiating about the resumption of services in 2011, planning for opening of flights immediately after the Chinese New Year, says Martynas Smitas, Hoptrans Logistic General Manager.
-The period from Christmas to the Chinese New Year is always a slack season so this break was planned from the outset.
-As part of the process we are now considering various alternatives to the IL-96-400 freighter, such as Boeing 777 or Boeing 747 freighters, to respond to the huge demand in the market for our services, says Mr Smitas.
