Dec 06, 2010 (newstodate): The EU-supported project for exploring new venues for air cargo in the Baltic, Nordic regions, Baltic.Aircargo.Net is keen to fine-tune its network of participants.
-We have set in motion the initial pilot memberships, but we are indeed keen to make this an open network with participants from all relevant markets, says Gunnar Prause, project director.
-While a few large airports like first of all Copenhagen Airport take the lead, there are quite a number of regional airports involved in air cargo business in the Baltic region, but they are mostly isolated and unconnected from each other.
-A first step is to identify a suitable IT system that may link the airports together and enable them to share information and data. Next comes then the development of perspectives and business cases for air cargo in the region, to balance the existing dominance of the large air cargo and logistics centers farther down in Europe.
-One crucial factor will be to focus on the expansion of road feeder services to provide a suitable infrastructure supporting the growth of air cargo in the Baltic region.
-We are indeed most interested in getting closer into contact with the players in this region and look forward to attracting more project members or partners, says Mr Prause.
