Dec 06, 2010 (newstodate): Albanian Airlines plans to launch service on a new route between Albania and Serbia in 2011.
If carried through, the carrier will operate between Tirana and Belgrade from H1, 2011, probably from the start of the summer schedule 2011.
JAT Airways operated the route till 2008 when the carrier was forced to pull back from several European routes as part of its cost cutting measures.
After a series of ownership changes since its start in 1991 as an airline serving Albanian communist party top brass, Albanian Airlines is now owned by the Azerbaijan-based Turkish Evsen Group of Companies and operates two BAe 146 aircraft and two Boeing 737 aircraft leased from KLM.
On the route network are destinations in Turkey, UK, Germany and Italy.
