Dec 16, 2010 (newstodate): Already after the first 11 months of this year, Lithuania's Kaunas is sure to close its books in the black as for cargo volumes.
In November 2010 the airport handled a total of 494 tonnes of cargo, up 14.5 percent, y-o-y.
This brought totals in January-November to 4,238 tonnes, an increase by 100.2 percent, y-o-y.
65 percent of the total volumes are airfreight shipments, primarily generated by the Lithuanian logistics company Hoptrans that is operating own freighter traffic from China to the Baltic region as well as to Russia, via Kaunas Airport.
The volumes at Kaunas Airport are thus now comparable to those generated by the country's capital airport at Vilnius that saw its volumes totaling 4,761 during January-November 2010.
At Vilnius Airport, the growth in cargo through the 11 months of 2010 was 23.4 percent, y-o-y, after a 16.6 percent growth, y-o-y, in November 2010.
