Nov 19, 2010 (newstodate): The UK/Swedish regional freighter company West Atlantic is to take in its newly-acquired Bombardier Q400 converted freighter before the end of this year.
-We expect the aircraft to arrive before Christmas, and it will be allocated to West Air Luxembourg, says Peter Koster, West Air Luxembourg general manager.
-The aircraft will be taken on a dry lease arrangement and remain on Swedish registration till further notice.
-It is really a test operation to see how the market will respond to this new fast aircraft that has a cargo capacity of 90 cubic meters, or some nine tonnes in a package freighter version. We are open to business, but it is eventually up to the market, of course, to determine whether this turboprop freighter aircraft appeals or not.
-At least is again proves that our company is always in the forefront of developments, and quite willing to test new options. We were the first also to operate the BAe ATP freighter, the converted CRJ-200, and soon-to-come also the first Airbus A320 converted freighter, says Mr Koster.
The Swedish cargo operator Nord-Flyg received the converted Q400-PF Package Freighter on January 16, 2009 - but while the aircraft performed without any flaws, the timing was obviously not good and the aircraft spent most of its time on the ground.
Nord-Flyg later folded its wings in April 2010, leaving the ex-SAS Q400 aircraft up for sale.
